“Hunting” Metal . .

The oxidation & corrosion of metals and the inherent patterns that occur over time will always be something that I am drawn to.

I could be arm in arm with a date in my Sunday’s best and just stop, dead in my tracks, to pick up some doohickey on the sidewalk I think is neat.

I can’t really explain why I’m so obsessed with scrap metal (of all things) . . It just fascinates me.

Most likely it stems from growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia around iron gates & ornate lampposts in places like Germantown and Chestnut Hill.

I was always playing at my grandparent’s houses with cousins around antique clocks, bread cabinets, and riveted furniture, or in garages & barns splayed with weathered shovels, pick axes and chisels. Just old, heavy, worn stuff . .

Today, I “hunt metal”. And I mean this literally, because I usually  have to venture to some pretty unusual areas of Philadelphia to find exactly what I’m looking for.

Places like abandoned warehouses & retired train tracks (fortunately, prevalent in Philadelphia) . .
